E-WMS CAB - LXE MX7 cold boot and E-WMS CAB installation procedure

Introduction

This document describes how to install and maintain E-WMS (Pick-IT) CAB on a LXE MX7 hand terminal.

Description

Cold boot set

The scanner needs a 'cold boot' set, this is a combination of components needed by E-WMS which are activated when the scanner reboots (cold boot and warm boot).  The E-WMS cold boot installation is started in both cold boot or warm boot procedure on the MX7, and should be installed in to the folder \System on the scanner. This \System folder is the base folder for the scanner, files in this folder are always available (in fact, the SD memory card in the scanner = \System folder) and are not deleted on cold boot or warm boot.  The E-WMS cold boot set on the FTP does not contain E-WMS (pickit.cab) itself, but on the device pickit.cab should be in the same folder.

These are the files in the LX7 cold boot set :

\System\Autoexec.bat
\System\cerdisp (optional, remote control of device)
\System\cerdisp\cerdisp.exe (optional, remote control of device)
\System\PickIT\NETCFv2.wce5.armv4i.cab
\System\PickIT\sql.wce5.armv4i.CAB
\System\PickIT\sqlce30.wce5.armv4i.CAB
\System\PickIT\symbol.all.arm.cab
\System\PickIT\System_SR_ENU.CAB
\System\PickIT\wceldcmd.exe
\System\PickIT\PickIT.lnk

This cold boot set can be downloaded from the FTP.  Save the downloaded cold boot ZIP file on your computer and extract it in a new folder, e.g. C:\coldboot.
You only need to download this cold boot set once, it will not change with each E-WMS release.

Pickit.cab

You need to copy the E-WMS CAB software for the cold boot set separately.
When using Globe 397 or earlier, download the file pickit.cab from the Exact FTP (click to open in a new window).
When using Globe 398, this is the file c:\program files\exact software\install\e-wms\pickit.cab.
When using Globe 399 or higher, this is the file c:\program files\exact software\install\e-wms\e-wms.cab.
(this folder is the default Exact Globe folder, you may need to changes this to your own situation)

Save this CAB file in the same folder as your cold boot set, in the subfolder 'PickIT' (\System\PickIT) for Globe 398 and earlier, or folder E-WMS (\System\E-WMS) for Globe 399 and higher.

Copy to device

Connect your hand terminal to your computer with a (USB) connection cable, you should have Microsoft Activesync (Vista: Windows Mobile Device Center) installed. Then browse in the Windows Explorer to your device, to the folder \SYSTEM

Now copy the contents of the C:\Coldboot\System folder on your PC into the \System folder on the device:

On the device, you must be able to see the folder structure \System\E-WMS, after this action.

Updating existing CAB

The E-WMS software it self is only one file: pickit.cab. This file is not included in the cold boot set and is to copied separately, see section 'Pickit.cab' above. It is advisable to make the CAB file 'read only', otherwise the CAB fill will be deleted when installing manually on the hand terminal. Copy the new CAB file to the mobile device into the folder \System\E-WMS. Then copy the files CONFIG.DAT and CSETTINGS.DAT from the folder \Program Files\WMS to \System\Pickit on the device, otherwise you will overwrite any working configuration when re-installing E-WMS.

To install the new E-WMS CAB version, you can start \System\E-WMS.CAB manually on the device, or perform a warm boot. When installing manually make sure the CAB file is set to 'read only; and you will also have to restore the files CONFIG.DAT and CSETTINGS.DAT manually from the cold boot folder to the program folder.

Saving scanner settings for RF and Scanner

Configure the terminal for the WLAN access (Summit Client Utility) and configure the scan settings (Settings/Control Panel/Scanner). These settings can be restored during a cold boot, by saving these settings first to registry files. This saving to registry files only has to be done once, or when changing the configuration.

Saving RF profiles

  • on the terminal, go to Start,Run, REGEDIT (Enter)
  • browse to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\SDCCF10G1\Parms
  • Select 'Parms'
  • choose menu File/Export
  • OK
  • type name: rf.reg and press OK
  • the file is automatically saved into \System and will be restored by the E-WMS Autoexec.bat

Saving scan settings

  • on the terminal, go to Start,Run, REGEDIT (Enter)
  • browse to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\LXE
  • select 'LXE'
  • choose menu File/Export
  • OK
  • type name: scan.reg and press OK
  • the file is automatically saved into \System and will be restored by the E-WMS Autoexec.bat

Language

After installation of E-WMS.CAB, there's a file called languages.rar in the folder \Program Files\E-WMS (or \Program files\Pickit). It may be necessary to re-install the correct languages files for your new E-WMS version. The default language of the software is Dutch (NL), when you are using NL there is no need to install these files.

If you want to use another language, please follow this procedure when you install E-WMS CAB for the first time, or if you install a new version of E-WMS on the terminal (update).

  • Perform the CAB installation as described above in section 'update existing CAB'
  • Copy the file \Program Files\WMS\languages.rar to your computer (desktop)
  • Extract this file to a folder
  • Copy the folders EN, FR, IT, NL and PL  to the folder \System\E-WMS on the device (UK is an empty folder):

  • Check if the file \System\Autoexec.bat will copy these language files, otherwise add the following lines to Autoexec.bat (in this sample, only languages EN and PL are copied):

    From Globe 399 :
            echo Restoring language files ...
            mkdir \"Program Files"\E-WMS\En
            mkdir \"Program Files"\E-WMS\Pl
            copy \system\E-WMS\en\*.* \"Program Files"\E-WMS\En
            copy \system\E-WMS\pl\*.* \"Program Files"\E-WMS\Pl

  • Now the languages will be installed each time you perform a cold boot or warm boot.

  • For one-time only installation, you can copy the language folders from the desktop directly to the program files folder for E-WMS (\Program files\e-WMS)
